Important Health Insurance Information In order to keep premiums at the same level as last year and avoid a 25% increase in the premium you pay, Blue Cross has changed a part of the plan that affects you. If you are on any medication that you take every day, you should obtain these prescriptions via mail order and reorder by the online pharmacy. If you do this, you can get three-month supply for the price of two months. This part of the plan is not changed. If you wish the convenience of a local pharmacy, there will be a major change. All local pharmacy orders are subject to a $100.00 deductible (per person, per year) and a 50% co-pay. For generic drugs, the cost will not be much different than in the past, as most generics are under $20/ month. However, if you are on a name brand drug that you take every day, your costs will go up significantly if you use a local pharmacy. This is because of the deductible and copay. If you use the mail order pharmacy, your costs will be the same or less than last year. The changes were made by Blue Cross in an effort to make the insured more responsible for costs. Without this change, the premiums you pay would have risen about 25%. This plan allows us not to change the premium at all for Anesco/SMB employees on the plan. Here is an example: For a person taking Lipitor on a daily basis: At CVS, a three-month supply would be $361.00. Your cost would be $100 for the deductible, plus $130 for the copay for a total of $230.00. After the deductible was satisfied, your cost would be $130.00. If you do mail order, your cost would be two months of mail order copay ($40/ month) or $80.00 and you would receive a third month at no charge. Your cost savings would be $150.00 for just using the mail order! If Lipitor was a Preferred Name Brand Drug, you would save even more, with the copay being $25/ month and the total cost for this example being $50.00 on the mail order side. See the BCBS website for the drug listings. In summary: If you take medications on a daily basis, you should request your doctor to order a three month supply and ask for a renewal. Mail this to Prime Pharmacy (form available from Beverly or bcbsfl.com) along with the prescription. Allow 9 days for delivery. If your prescription has renewals, you may order them via Internet at bcbsfl.com. Again, allow 9 days for delivery. The form for mail order is available here and the fax form for your physician is available here. |
